In this ESL Speaking Activity, divide the students into pairs or small groups. Provide each group with a scenario where someone wants to do something and asks another person to join. Ask the students to read the scenario and prepare a short dialogue using “Would you like to…” to invite the other person to join in the activity. Encourage them to elaborate on their dialogues by including more questions. After they have prepared their dialogues, have each group perform their role-play in front of the class.
Scenario:
You would like to practice yoga. Maybe your roommate will join you.
Possible dialogue:
Student A: Would you like to practice yoga with me?
Student B: Sure, I’d love to practice yoga with you! Where would you like to practice?
Student A: How about the park? It’s peaceful and has plenty of space.
Student B: Park sounds great! What time would you like to meet there?
Student A: Would 7:00 am be okay?
